Chengdu Bamboo Weaving (represented by Daoming Bamboo Weaving and Ceramic-Body Bamboo Weaving), a national intangible cultural heritage of China with a thousand-year history, is centered in Daoming Town, Chongzhou, Chengdu .
History: Originated in the ancient Shu Kingdom, flourished in the Tang and Song dynasties. The unique Ceramic-Body Bamboo Weaving emerged during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, once serving as imperial tributes and state gifts .
Craftsmanship: Select 2–3-year-old Cizhu (Neosinocalamus affinis). It undergoes 30+ meticulous steps: scraping green skin, splitting nodes, slicing into filaments, steaming, dyeing, etc., to produce hair-thin, translucent bamboo filaments/strips . Ceramic-Body Bamboo Weaving weaves ultra-thin bamboo filaments tightly around porcelain bodies, combining bamboo and ceramic for heat resistance and elegance. Daoming Bamboo Weaving excels in flat, three-dimensional, and “pepper eye” weaves, blending utility and artistry.
Masterpieces: Bamboo-wrapped gaiwan teacups, tea sets, vases, fruit baskets, decorative art, World Games medal boxes, etc .
